Are you following the signs to the amazing life that awaits you?

This journey of life is a dance. You can tap your feet on the sidelines, ho humming along. Or, you can ecstatically dance your way through life with the music blasting, shaking that body like nobody is watching. Which do you prefer? The way you choose to live your life is just that a choice. You created the life you’re living now, and you have the power to create any life you wish—just be sure to follow the signs…

Following the signs simply means paying attention to coincidences, serendipity and things somehow happening at the perfect time—a challenge presents to you and a solution magically crosses your path around the same time.

Sure you can “deal” with whatever “problem” comes up, but you may not have to. And it is possible that something even better is waiting for you. Perhaps the challenge presents to let you know it’s time to move on. The thing is, you have to act quickly or the opportunity will pass on by.

This most recently happened to me with my living situation. After Utopia I found the most perfect cottage nestled in nature at the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains. As I bathed in the outdoor tub I would gaze and the setting sun just behind the majestic mountains as hummingbirds flirted with all the colorful flowers surrounding me. Every morning I would pick fruit to eat from the lemon and orange trees. There was a soothing silence in the air and indeed it was the perfect living space to create in and feel grounded. I thought I would live there for years.

One weekend I visited a long lost friend in Laguna Beach. It is a beautiful coastal town with beautiful rocks and reefs along the shoreline. I felt like I was on vacation the entire time I was visiting. The ocean is beyond healing and for a moment I wondered if I would be better served living at the beach.

The day I returned home I received a call from my landlady stating that she had to do some construction on the cottage. She shared that due to permitting issues it was possible she might have to disconnect the outdoor tub and the wood-burning oven that created the perfect ambiance in my bedroom in the evenings. I wasn’t too happy about this news so I told her I would have to think about staying, as these amenities were a big part of the sanctuary I called home.

I called my friend in Laguna Beach and told him about the news I had just received. Coincidentally, he was planning to sublet his place at the beach for six months due to a work assignment in Australia. Graciously he offered the place to me for the same price as the cottage! I immediately said yes knowing that this was a sign to follow, and so begins the next chapter of my journey.

The thing is, I could have stayed in the cottage and it would have been just fine. On the flip side, I could have viewed moving to a new town like Laguna Beach, where I don’t know anyone, as scary. Sure, the safe decision is to stay put. And at the same time why not say yes and experience another adventure?

Humans have become creatures of habit. Avoiding change due to fear is cutting life short of wonderful celebrations and experiences.

There is also a human tendency to only want to change things when they go “wrong,” not when they appear “right.” Inviting in change, however, at any and all points in our lives is how we continue to dance to the beat of life.
