Today I was invited by Courtney and Stephanie, the founders of Social Fly, a social media marketing company, to appear as a guest on their weekly #socialflysessions on Spreecast to discuss how social media has played a roll in growing my business. We also discussed how social media affects our health and our everyday lives. Watch here.
I'm so grateful to have had the opportunity to discuss the challenges I've faced using social media. It has definitely been a journey full of insecurities, triumphs, and inspiration. Essentially the take home messages for me have been:
- to be fearless about it and just do it— who cares about how many likes each post gets my following continues to grow and the inspiring, heartfelt messages I receive let's me know I'm on the right track.
- staying true to myself and sharing wholeheartedly even if the topic is as embarrassing as a cleanse I did where I talk about pooping all day long— people LOVE genuine.
- finding the balance of using it for work and play. I share my ENTIRE life— from having tea with friends to posting about an event I'm having.
- AND most importantly, consciously setting aside time weekly to disconnect, even if it's just for an afternoon. It's important to set boundaries and be sure to connect with people in the flesh and with yourself without the distraction of social media.
Social media has done amazing things for businesses and connecting people on a global scale, providing a platform for us to share our beautiful journeys with each other. And at the same time, there is more to life than social media so I always remember to be in the moment and live life to the fullest everyday!
