A New Healthcare System for Humanity

I find it funny that when people ask me, “What do you do?” I say, “I inspire and empower people to live healthier, happier lives in various ways.” I hold off on sharing the fact that I am an MD because this creates space to have a real conversation about health care.

It’s also funny when people leave comments on my social media asking, “Dr. Nikki, will you ever practice medicine again?” I laugh and think, “I am practicing medicine—the natural, empowering, healing-the-whole-person kind.”

True health care is about prevention. Health care is not the sick care system America has today. True health care is about what we eat, what we do with our bodies, how we spend our time, the environment we live in, and so much more.

Sickness with aging is not “normal.” Despite the fact that sickness happens to the majority elders, it is not supposed to happen. Elders are meant to be an active part of society—sharing wisdom and lessons accrued over a lifetime, not ushered off and isolated in nursing homes to waste away the rest of their days. How do you envision the last part of your life?

The reason I hesitate to share that I am a doctor is because there is a preconceived notion of what that means. In America, doctors are categorized into specialties expected to treat specific symptoms and diseases. This, however, is not my call to healing.

My passion is to work with those who still have their health and are seeking to live the life of their dreams. I’m passionate about inspiring a mind-body-spirit approach to living the most amazing existence, while educating about how to live a healthy lifestyle. And so, I created The Initiation Course™, which I am grateful to say was a huge success after its first session.

Health care is about education. As humans, we are all healers. We have the power to heal ourselves. We have choices, and the freedom to choose. The way in which we live our lives today determines our tomorrow. Thus, it is important to share the healing benefits of food, activities, exercises, practices, and other natural tools that exist at minimal cost and do not require a prescription.

Currently, the American healthcare system is a billion dollar for-profit system. Very little money is put into educating people on how to live a healthy life. It’s important to know it’s not the fault of the doctors—it’s the fault of the system. Insurance companies do not reimburse doctors well/if at all for educating patients.  With student debt being so high and the payout per patient visit continually declining, doctors must see as many patients as possible in order to pay bills. There simply isn't time or resources to educate patients. So, where is all the money going?

Never once when I share my opinions and values on health care and healthy living has anyone ever disagreed with me. In fact, all parties leave inspired and intrigued. Western medicine has its place, but the system is currently abusing its gifts from overuse of prescription medications, overuse of diagnostic testing and procedures, the for-profit model and so on. And much of this is caused by doctors and patients not knowing of any other options.

At this point, it is impossible to “fix” or “change” the system. A new model must be created and shown to be successful. Patients and healthcare practitioners will be drawn to the model that produces the best results in quality of life, results, and overall life satisfaction.

I was recently contacted by The HEAL Center, a not-for-profit healthcare center that has created a model I agree with (watch video), launching the campaign Project HEAL America. Project HEAL America where I see the future of healthcare heading for the betterment of humanity. It supports education, as well as empowering, non-invasive treatments as frontline care, before opting for prescription medications and invasive procedures and testing. And as a not-for-profit healthcare system, it has the patients' best interests at heart.

I support Project HEAL America (watch video). Please contribute to the fundraising campaign dedicated to creating a healthcare model that can be replicated around the country and eventually around the world.
