Every day is Thanksgiving.

Gratitude is a practice that enriches our lives. It’s not just something to share on a holiday like Thanksgiving. It is a daily practice. Give thanks for each and every beautiful moment, and even for the hard times, as these are where we learn our greatest lessons. Being grateful brings more joy into our everyday lives. Giving thanks even improves our health. Yes, really! What are you grateful for?

My Utopia Experience, Part 2

So many lessons have been learned and I realize the impact that each and every pioneer had on me. Relationships of any kind are invitations for growth and evolution towards our highest selves. They allow for reflection and propose an opportunity to look within at areas we may need to work on. I am connected with each and every pioneer simply because we shared the same space. Sharing space with people has an effect on us whether we realize it or not. This week’s blog reflects on the relationships I shared in Utopia.

My Experience in Utopia

It’s now two days post the cancellation of Utopia and I’m still processing. I’m still insulated— sitting here in solitude at the desk in my hotel room in Valencia, CA. I haven’t watched any episodes or web clips yet—there is a part of me that wonders if I ever will. I’m at peace in this very moment and excited for the journey ahead.

Can I please everyone?

It’s impossible to please everyone. There have been times in my life when I’ve disappointed the people I love. And now I’m about to do it again. Disappointing people is inevitable because unfortunately the perfect compromises don’t always exist. So where do we draw the line between living our own lives and living our lives for others?

My Secret Hobby...

I’ve been quiet lately—suffering from writer’s block since my trip to the Amazon. Today I realized that sharing my secret hobby with you would facilitate me in sharing my Amazonian adventure.

For those of you who have been following my journey, the signs have been present, but I haven’t really been so verbal about. To many of you it may seem weird because, heck it was weird to me when all of these interesting experiences kept happening across my path.

Why Farm-to-Table?

It’s so wonderful to be back in NYC. Yesterday the sun was shining and I happened into the Union Square Farmer’s Market. Having just returned from the Amazon I was excited to stock up on brightly ripened peaches and heirloom tomatoes along with the necessary greens of Kale and Lettuce. I’ve come to prefer Farmer’s Market as the source of my food whenever possible. You may be wondering, “what’s the difference, why not just go to the supermarket?” But trust me, there is a BIG difference.

Labels Shmabels. There are more than 50 shades of Gray.

Labels place us in neat, constricting boxes—Black, White, Christian, Hindu, Gay, Straight, Married, Single, Male, Female, Womanizer, Romantic, blah, blah, and so the labels continue on. But there are more than 50 shades of gray, and in reality everything is spectrum. Did you know that white light is really all the colors of the rainbow? If natural elements exist in more than one form and are constantly evolving with time, how can we not expect the same for people?

Define American?

There is a tendency to think that all words mean the same thing to each and every person… but they don’t. There is the dictionary definition, there are the emotions a word evokes based on a person’s priming, and then there is the actual meaning of the word in the context of a situation. No wonder things get lost in translation. There are many nuances to the labels and titles we use to define people. So, how would you define an American?

I Get Lost in the Sky

This morning I awoke with a gasp to the stifling summer heat in the air. I rolled over and saw it was 4:30am. A smile spread across my face because I knew the sun had yet to begin her ascent. I grabbed a sweater and climbed the winding staircase to the rooftop. The warm breeze kissed my legs as I stepped out onto the terrace. There, dazzling in front of me, was the Manhattan skyline— a concrete jungle full of dreams and chaos. “Oh the love/hate relationship I have with this city,” I thought for a moment, and then as the sunrise began, the pink lights in the sky robbed all of my attention.

Do you give yourself permission to relax?

When was the last time you gave yourself permission to relax? In the rat race of busy schedules— work, exercise, meals, events, dates, friends, loved ones, children, adventure, travel, blah, blah… How much time are you devoting to rest and pampering yourself? Sleep doesn’t count because it’s a necessity. I mean full on “this my time to do nothing” or “this is my time for self-love to do exactly what I want to do to nourish myself.”
